Istikhara

Seeking Allah's Guidance for Life's Important Decisions

Learn about the blessed practice of Istikhara as taught by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

What is Istikhara?

Istikhara (Arabic: استخارة) is a prayer of guidance taught by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to help Muslims seek Allah's guidance when making important decisions in life.

"If any one of you is concerned about some practical undertaking, or about making plans for a journey, he should perform two rak'ahs of optional prayer, then say this du'a..."

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Sahih al-Bukhari)

The Du'a of Istikhara

English Translation
"O Allah, I seek guidance from Your knowledge, and Power from Your Might and I ask for Your great blessings. You are capable and I am not. You know and I do not and You are the Knower of the unseen. O Allah, if You know that this matter is good for me in my religion, my livelihood, and my affairs, immediate and in the future, then ordain it for me and make it easy for me to get, and then bless me in it, and if You know that this matter is harmful to me in my religion, my livelihood and my affairs, immediate and in the future, then keep it away from me and let me be away from it. And ordain for me whatever is good for me wherever it is and make me satisfied with it."
